Has anyone heard Red Eye to Memphis yet? I looked for it at iTunes today but I don't see it? Maybe I am doing something wrong? I see Night Moves (video & LP) and Wait For Me (video)? I searched specifically for Face the Promise and then for Red Eye but nothing? I would love to hear this track. :(

"Face The Promise" had to be preordered to get "Red Eye To Memphis" so I guess that they aren't offering it now...not until a few weeks anyways....that would be my guess, but I don't really know anything about itunes.

But someone had to preorder it hey? Someone should be able to share with us?......who knows maybe he'll play it tonight on the radio special!..that would be awesome!

I pre-ordered it on iTunes, so I will give my thoughts on "Red Eye" tomorrow. The track was only available (along with the video for "Wait For Me") IF you pre- ordered the album between Sept. 5th and Sept. 12th. As of today, it is no longer available, unfortunately. Whether or not it will become available as an individual track for 99 cents is beyond me. Hopefully it will. However, as it has already been pointed out on this forum, there might be an expanded edition of 'Face the Promise' released in December with "Red Eye to Memphis" among other tracks.

"Red Eye To Memphis" definitely has that swampy, bluesy Memphis-y feel to it like described in 'The Vault' at Segerfile. Bob describes it as a Tony Joe White thing, but I am not familiar with Tony Joe White, so I cannot offer any comparison. However, when the song opens, the Pretenders "My City Was Gone" (also the theme song for Rush Limbaugh's radio show) comes imediately to my mind. Sex seems to be the theme of this track. Here are the opening lines:

"Baby's on the Red Eye to Memphis,
bringin' me somethin' tonight.
Bring it here home to Daddy,
Tonight we won't fuss and fight.
Don't worry, Baby, I'll leave on every light."

I think this is a good song, but lyrically would not stand up with the themes Bob sings about on the new cd. Clever lyrics, nontheless, and a track that deserves at least to be re-released as a bonus track if 'Face the Promise' is being re-issued with extras. :)

The song reminded me of something from pre-Live Bullet, raw, soulful, different. It sounds like it would fit on Beautiful Loser or Smoking OP's.

I didn't order this from iTunes for a couple of reasons. Personally (call me old school) but I wanted the art work and not just print outs from a .pdf file. I also don't know much about iTunes. From what I picked up on here, it seemed that we would be able to purchase the track (Red Eye...) separately after the release date passed. I am hoping that still ends up to be the case. I don't want to feel like I am punished for not purchasing in some format that I am not comfortable with. I know there is talk that the CD will be reissued in December (and although I am not thrilled that I will have to purchase it twice - I will do it) but I want to hear it NOW!!

I keep checking at various locations but so far no luck. I was also hoping that the live version on Leno would also "materialize" in an audio format but so far not seeing it anywhere. I will keep on looking...

Tony Joe White did "Polk Salad Annie" = great song. Wish we had the information, or maybe I just missed it, about the extra track before it was too late. Rumors of additional tracks being added after Christmas scares me about sales. Die hards like us will buy both but the rumor could hurt sales now.

Upon having just searched iTunes a moment ago for Seger, it would appear that "Red Eye To Memphis" is currently available again, but only if you order the entire album for $9.99.

as anxious as I am to hear this one, it seems likely that Bob will be releasing this song with some more material later on in the year. I usually only accept "passed around" versions of songs that most likely (never say never LOL) will not be released. So for purposes of supporting bob if this comes out in a little bit, I'm hoping this doesn't spread like wildfire ;) through the fan base, or Bob may think his outtakes don't sell if he releases them and everyone already has their copy

I am hoping I don't have to wait until December to get my hands on Red Eye... I certainly am not going to pay $10(US) for one song whether it be iTunes or a re-release. Obviously there will be more then just Red Eye to Memphis on the re-release and it is a pretty safe bet that I will be purchasing the re-release - regardless of whether or not someone is kind enough to circulate their copy.

I have it. I just went to iTunes when I saw Seger on Leno and bought the album; Red Eye To Memphis is on it, as a kind of extra. It's pure Seger. Here're the lyrics, as best as I can transcribe.

Bob Seger - Red Eye to Memphis

"Baby's on the Red Eye to Memphis,
bringin' me somethin' tonight.
Bring it here home to Daddy,
Tonight we won't fuss and fight.
Don't worry, Baby, I'll leave on every light."

(break)

She’s bringing me something special
Something we don’t talk about
She says that she’s got the real thing
She says there ain’t no doubt
Ain’t nobody’s business
what we’re talking about.

(break)

We’re going to hold ... to moon
create some history soon
This is ain’t no hat, no new pair of shoes
just packin something we sure can use.

(break)

They’ll be down at the terminal in Memphis
Watchin’ every single gate
She’ll be movin’ through the shadows
she says she won’t be late
Once we get together
you know its going to be great

Has there been any more talk about a special edition cd with 4 more tracks? I would think we would have heard by now.

I know...damn. I was really looking forward to the special edition. I STILL haven't heard
"Red Eye To Memphis". Let's hope it still gets done. Maybe I will get lucky and Bob will play it opening night at the Palace.

Possibly someone post a link to this song or maybe even a sample.
